Develop friendship with books: XLRI Jamshedpur Director Fr. S. George

Jamshedpur, Aug 10: XLRI – Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur celebrated the ‘National Librarians’ Day’ at Sir Jehangir Ghandy Library in remembrance of the 131st birth anniversary of Late Dr S R  Ranganathan, the Father of Indian Library Science.

The faculty, staff, researchers, students, and the library staff members were present on this occasion.

Fr. S. George, Director, garlanded the photo of Dr S R Ranganathan, Prof. Sanjay Patro, Dean –Academics, Fr. Somy Mathew, S.J., Assistant Dean – Administration and Finance, Prof. Pingali Venugopal, Marketing Area, Prof. Sunil Kumar Sarangi, General Management Area, Prof. Santanu Gupta, Chairperson – Economics Area, Prof. Giridhar Ramachandran, Marketing Area, Prof. Ameet Kumar Banerjee, Finance Area and Mr. D.T. Edwin, Head – Library offered their homage to Dr. S R Ranganathan.

After this, a formal function which was started with a welcome speech delivered by Ms. Shabnam Ansari wherein she invited the guests & audience and throw some light on the career journey of Dr. S R Ranganathan.

Fr. S. George, Director in his speech he expressed the importance of the books and shared his own experience about the library and books. Fr. George underscored the pivotal role of books and libraries in shaping the lives of individuals. He highlighted their significant contributions and urged attendees to befriend books.

Further, he launched the Institutional Repository developed by the Library. He also presented the gifts to the winner of the quiz conducted on 2nd Aug 2023.

Abuzar Hossain and Sawan Kr. Prasad demonstrated the newly launched Institutional Repository designed with DSpace Software.

Prof. Sanjay Patro, Dean – Academics, shared his views about the library and its functionality, He admired the library team for their service and also greeted the faculty, staff members, scholars and students who gathered in this formal function. He launched a video of Virtual Tour of the Library.

D.T. Edwin, Head-Library he started his speech with throwing some more light on the life of Dr S. R.  Ranganathan. He encouraged the users to make the maximum use of the library and its sources. He expressed how organised the Library Team is, in delivering quality services.

Swapnil Sahoo, EXEC-FPM student shared his views on the Library and its sources. He also shared his experience about different libraries since his school days to till date.

Fr Somy Mathew, S.J., Assistant Dean – Administration and Finance felicitated the library staff members with mementos & gifts.

Prof. Santanu Gupta presented the gift to the staff members from other department who supported to make this function a grant success.

Prof. Pingali Venugopal presented the gift to few other staff members who collaborated in this event.

The event culminated with a vote of thanks delivered by Anjelina Mundu, followed by the rendition of the National Anthem. The celebration not only paid homage to Dr S. R. Ranganathan’s legacy but also underscored the library’s pivotal role in academic pursuits and research endeavors.
