Devanand Bag gets life sentence for killing wife

Jamshedpur, July 11: The court of Additional District Judge XIII Prabhakar Singh sentenced one Devanand Bag to life imprisonment for killing his wife. It also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict.

The case dates back to 24th January 2017. Devanand Bag assaulted his wife Gomti alias Manju Bag (35) with an axe around 4 am in the presence of his son Rahul Kumar and daughter Shivani in the outhouse of Bungalow Number 12 in Dhatkidih under Bistupur PS. He was caught while fleeing the house after the crime. His son had lodged a police complaint in the incident. Police had recovered the axe and also taken samples of blood found on the bed for forensic test.

Devanand Bag was a daily worker and a native of Balangir, Odisha. He was a habitual drunkard. He had reportedly consumed liquor on the day of the incident.
