New Delhi / Ranchi: The Jharkhand government made a powerful pitch to position the state as Eastern India’s next big tourism hub during the National Stakeholders’ Consultation 2026 at the Hotel Taj Palace in New Delhi.
The high-profile session, themed “Destination Jharkhand: Driving Tourism Investment and Inclusive Development,” brought together top policymakers, tourism experts, and industry leaders to map out strategies for sustainable economic growth.
Officials said that Jharkhand’s tourism sector is booming, recording a staggering 5.85 crore tourist visits in 2024, which included 4.4 crore pilgrim visits.
Key Highlights: How Jharkhand is Transforming Tourism
- Industry Status Granted: The state has officially granted “Industry Status” to the tourism sector, unlocking massive opportunities for private investment, institutional finance, and rapid infrastructure growth.
- Diversified Attractions: While already a powerhouse for religious tourism, Jharkhand is actively developing eco-tourism, wildlife safaris, adventure sports, water resorts, mining tourism, and community-led tribal tourism.
- New Policy Push: The government is launching the Tourism Policy 2026 and the Homestay Policy 2026, backed by a digital single-window registration system to ease investor hurdles.
“More Than Just Minerals” – Minister Invites Investors
Addressing the gathering, Tourism, Art, Culture, Sports, and Youth Affairs Minister Shri Sudivya Kumar emphasized that the state is ready to shed its image as just a mining hub.
“Nature has gifted Jharkhand not only with abundant minerals but also with extraordinary natural beauty, which is even more valuable,” Minister Sudivya Kumar said. “Jharkhand has opened its doors to tourism, and we warmly welcome visitors from across the country.”
The Minister heavily emphasized the employment potential of community-driven tourism over traditional setups:
“A five-star hotel may directly employ around 200 people, but if we develop 100 homestays, nearly 500 people connect directly to sustainable livelihoods. Our upcoming Homestay Policy will be highly attractive and will help establish Jharkhand as a national leader in homestay destinations.”
A Multitude of Private Investment Opportunities
The state is rolling out incentives, inviting private players to invest heavily in modern tourism infrastructure, including:
- Hotels and premium luxury resorts
- Ropeways and skywalks
- Water sports, floating restaurants, and houseboats
- Eco-camping sites and experiential tribal tourism projects
