Jamshedpur: In a move aimed at curbing drug abuse and protecting school-going children, the Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi directed all private and government schools to ensure a complete prohibition of the sale of intoxicants within a 100-meter radius of their campuses.
He instructed Narcotics Coordination Committee officials to launch targeted awareness campaigns in schools to educate students about the harmful effects of drugs and discourage the sale of cigarettes and other intoxicants by street vendors near educational institutions.
These directives were issued during a meeting of the Narcotics Coordination Committee held in the Collectorate auditorium. Senior Superintendent of Police Piyush Pandey, Superintendent of Police (City) Kumar Shivashish, ADM Law and Order Bhagirath Prasad, SDM Dhalbhum Chandrajeet Singh, SDPO Ghatshila Ajit Kujur, DSP Bhola Prasad, the Drugs Inspector, and officials from education, health, municipal bodies, and officials from other departments were present.
The meeting included a detailed review of NDPS Act cases and district-wide initiatives to prevent drug trafficking, illegal sale, and consumption. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that protecting children from exposure to intoxicants is a priority and reiterated the need for coordinated action between schools, enforcement agencies, and local authorities. He urged officials to conduct special drives around school and college campuses to identify and eliminate illegal drug supply points.
