Ranchi/Deoghar (IANS): The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested two employees of the District Land Acquisition Office in Deoghar on Friday. The duo was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe to release government compensation for the city’s Ring Road project.
The “5 Percent Commission” Demand
The accused, identified as Niranjan and Nunu Dev, allegedly demanded a 5% commission on the total compensation amount from a local landowner. The victim, who was entitled to payment for land acquired for the proposed Ring Road project, approached the ACB after being repeatedly pressured for the bribe.
Trap and Arrest
Following a verification of the complaint, the ACB laid a trap on Friday. The team apprehended both employees at the moment they accepted the cash.

Current Status: The arrested individuals have been transported to Dumka for further interrogation.

Wider Context: This follows Thursday’s high-profile arrests of a Sub-Inspector in Koderma and a Panchayat Secretary in Gumla.
Officials noted that with large-scale land acquisition currently underway in Deoghar, they are closely monitoring complaints of staff demanding “cuts” or commissions from beneficiaries.
