Jamshedpur, September 9: Dengue cases is increasing in the city.
Every day around 300-400 patients are reaching the hospitals for examination. Whereas on an average six patients are being found positive every day. The situation is worrying. The pressure on hospitals is increasing. The demand for platelets has increased six times.
The situation can be gauged from the fact that between August 1 and September 7, 4,835 units of platelets were given from Jamshedpur Blood Bank.
Before August, about 600 to 650 people used to demand 50 to 60 units every month. Currently the demand is 250 to 270 units daily. These figures are shocking, because platelets are not made in advance, hence a donor has to be brought along.
This is the first time that the demand has increased almost six times. Not only this, seven patients also received SDP i.e. Single Donor Platelets Transplant in one day.
So far, 591 dengue patients have been found in the district, out of which platelets have been transfused to many patients.
A healthy person has 5 to 6 liters of blood in his body, which is mainly made up of fluids, red and white blood cells and many other elements, which also include platelets. Red blood cells work to transport oxygen from one place to another throughout the body.
It is only through this that our body gets energy. White blood cells give us the strength to fight infections. Generally, the number of platelets in one square milliliter of blood of a healthy person ranges from one and a half to four lakhs.
When the number of platelets in the blood decreases, then that condition is called thrombocytopenia in the language of medical science. If the number of platelets decreases to 1.40 lakh, then the patient needs to be given separate platelet transfusion. In such a situation the risk of bleeding increases. As it flows, this blood starts coming out of the nose or skin.
108 suspected dengue patients were identified in the district on Friday. Of these, 48 are from Chakulia. Four patients have been confirmed to be dengue positive. Everyone is being treated in hospitals. Samples of the suspects have been sent for investigation.
Dengue patients are undergoing treatment in Jamshedpur. Platelets are being made available to those who are in need.
