Jamshedpur, April 10: According to a resolution passed on April 9 by the Jharkhand state bar council, advocates in the state were called to go on strike on Friday, April 10 to protest attacks against advocates and “demand adequate security” from the police. Advocate Birendra Singh, member of District Bar Association, Ranchi was murdered in Ranchi while Advocate Anand Jha of Jamshedpur Civil court was armed attack outside the court premises.
According to the council, one advocate was murdered in “broad day light”, and recently there was an “armed attack” on another outside of Jamshedpur Civil Court.
There was also a complaint from a senior member of the local bar that “the elderly lady advocate” was summoned to the police station, where the police officers used “unacceptable language against her” and threatened her with extortion. The council has requested the DGP, Jharkhand to immediately look into the matter and to act upon the complaint of Indrani Sen Choudhary, Advocate Jharkhand High Court in Ranchi.
Advocate all over the state protested in the court premises and represented before the SP of each district to protest such attack and demand adequate security.
