Demand to implement Bengali as second official language in Jharkhand

Jamshedpur, May 30: Members of several Bengali organizations of Jamshedpur including Amal Sanga, New Farm Area Durga Puja Committee, Bangla Bhasi Ekta Manch, Jharkhand Bangbhasi Samiti, Bango Bandhu, Bangabhasi Samanvya Samiti, Jharkhand Bengali Association, teachers and others submitted a memorandum to DC Dr. Amitabh Kaushal addressed to the Governor Draupadi Murmu on Monday demanding implementation of Bengali language with second state language in Jharkhand.

Members also submitted a seven-point charter of demands stating that Bengali and Santali languages should be implemented in Jharkhand with immediate effect.

“Several Bengali medium primary, middle and high level schools in Jharkhand were medium of education was Bengali since 1986 have been converted into Hindi. The government should take action and convert it to Bengali medium with Bengali books and appoint Bengali teachers for the same,” said Sandip Sinha Choudhary, general secretary of Amal Sangh.

He further said that Bengali books should be printed according to NCERT.  The Bengali medium schools which are presented, according to the government document, should appoint Bengali teachers.

Prashant Banerjee, president, Bangla Bhasi Ekta Manch, said railway station and bus stand must have announcements made in Bengali, programs should be telecasted in Bengali in Jharkhand Doordarshan and AIR, while modus operandi in government and court should use Bengali Language.
