Demand for declaring Potka a drought area

Jamshedpur, July 20: A delegation of the farmers� wing of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) led by its district president Luv Kumar Sardar today met Potka BDO Kapil Kumar and handed him a letter of demands that included relief for farmers of the area in view of the prevailing drought conditions. Luv Sardar contended that the farmers� crops were going to waste because of the drought conditions. As such, the delegation demanded that Potka be declared a drought affected area and adequate compensation be paid to them.

The JMM farmers� wing also demanded provisions for vaccination and treatment for live stock, supply of water to agricultural and crop fields through deep boring, spraying of bleaching powder and DDT to prevent and contain spread of diseases and providing farmers with crop insurance cards.

The delegation led by the wing�s district president Luv Kumar Sardar included Parimal Kaivarto, Sitaram Upadhyay, district secretary Paltan Murmu and Mahavir Murmu.
