Deceased’s relative accuse Jamshedpur Hospital of gouging out eyes, create ruckus

Jamshedpur, August 3: Relatives of a dead person’s alleged Uma Hospital in Pardih, Mango of killing the patient and taking out eyes during treatment.

The relatives of the deceased created commotion at the hospital while hospital management have claimed that eye of the deceased might have been damaged by rat.

There is resentment among relatives due to such gross negligence of the management towards the patient being treated in the hospital or the person who died during treatment.

Dr Jujhar Majhi, civil surgeon of East Singhbhum district, said that he does not have any information in this matter and action will be taken as per the law after getting information. He said that if this has happened then it is gross negligence of the hospital management.

As soon as the information about the missing eye of the deceased was received, a large number of people reached the hospital and accused the hospital management of taking out the eye of the deceased. Amidst the uproar, on behalf of the hospital management, spoke to the relatives of the deceased and those who created the uproar.

During this, the hospital management offered Rs 1.5 lakh each to the three children of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for last rites.

After the matter was highlighted in the social media Ulidih police said that an FIR would be registered in this matter. Along with registering the case, the police was completing the process of sending the dead body to MGM Hospital for post-mortem.

In this case, the relatives of the deceased have made a written complaint to the SSP. In the complaint, the hospital management has been accused of killing the patient by gouging out his eyes.

Shivdev Mahato, brother of the deceased Sahdev Mahato, has said in the complaint that his brother was injured in a road accident on the night of August 1. After which he was admitted to Uma Super Specialty Hospital on Dimna Road in the night itself. The next day, on August 2, Sahdev Mahato was declared dead by the hospital.

  When the relatives started taking the dead body home after reaching the hospital, they realized something wrong when they saw blood falling from the dead body and on careful examination they saw the right eye was missing from the dead body and the bandage was tied on the face. They  demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter. The relatives have also demanded the post-mortem of the dead body with videography in the presence of the competent officer and the relatives of the deceased.

Sahdev Mahato (30), a resident of Kadargama in Kukdu block of Seraikela-Kharsawan district, met with an accident on his bike in front of Muru village under Neemdih police station area.

After the accident, the police of Neemdih police station took him to the Community Health Center in Nimdih for treatment.  He was then referred to MGM Hospital Jamshedpur for better treatment. The relatives took him from MGM Hospital to RIMS, Ranchi. The relatives brought him back to Jamshedpur and admitted him to Uma Hospital. He died on Wednesday night during treatment. The hospital management asked the relatives to take his dead body on Wednesday night itself. The relatives expressed their inability to take the dead body at night and requested to keep it in the hospital till morning.

 On Thursday morning, when his relatives reached to collect the dead body, they saw that only his right eye was missing. After this, commotion started in the hospital.
