Death of 25-year-old woman from running train: Police suspect murder, husband under scanner


Jamshedpur, July 19: The 25-year-old woman Laxmi Kumhakar who jumped from a running train is suspected to have been murdered. Her body was recovered from Kharkairiver along Kadma police station area last evening.

The police had on Wednesday registered a case of unnatural death, maintaining that the young woman had committed suicide by jumping from a running train into Kharkai river on Tuesday. But after an FIR lodged by the deceased’s father Madhu Kumhakar and subsequent probe by the police it has been found that Laxmi had been pushed by her husband SubodhKumhakar from the running train.

Kadmathana OC, JK Thakur confirmed that it is a murder case and not a suicide case like they had registered yesterday after recovery of the woman’s body from the Kharkai river.

“We are registering a murder case on the basis of the FIR lodged by the victim’s father and also on the preliminary findings,” said Thakur.

The lady from Chandil was travelling on Tata-Chakradharpur Passenger train along with her husband SubodhBhagat to her in-laws house in Jadugora. However, her husband said that till Adityapur, she was with him but could not be traced between Adityapur and Tatanagar Station and then he got the information in the afternoon that her body was recovered at Shastrinagar.

Laxmi who was married just three months ago to Subodh, a resident of Burkhadih village in Potka block of the district, had boarded Purulia-Jhargram Passenger on Tuesday. They were to get down at Tatanagar station by 11.45 am. But at around 12.45 pm, Subodh informed his father-in-law that Laxmi was missing from the train after it crossed Adityapur.

On getting the information, Kumhakar who is a resident of Adardih village in Chandil rushed to Jamshedpur and started searching for his daughter at the Tatanagar railway station area and also in Adityapur. It was during his search he came to know that a woman had jumped from a passenger train in the day.

Revealing about this all, Kumhakar said stayed at Adityapur on Tuesday night and on Wednesday he started searching for his daughter in the river it was during the search he found a crowd of people gathered along Shastrinagar in Kadma. On reaching the spot about 5 pm, he found his daughter lying dead there. Then the police were informed who considered it to be a case of suicide.
