Jamshedpur: A couple, Suman Devi and Ajit Singh, were brutally attacked by their neighbors near the Gadabasa Govardhan Baba temple in the Bagbera police station area, raising serious questions about police inaction. Shockingly, the assault reportedly occurred in the presence of police, leaving the victims with severe head and body injuries.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening when the accused allegedly knocked on the victims’ door and began abusing them. Ajit Singh and his wife Suman Devi lodged a complaint at the Bagbera police station, following which the police reached the scene. However, the situation took a violent turn when the accused attacked the couple with an axe and rod in the presence of the police.
The attackers, identified as Rasbihari Chandravanshi, W Chandravanshi, Lalbabu Chandravanshi, Sumitra Devi, Vibha Devi, Baby Devi, Sunita Devi, Sumit Kumar, and 10-15 others, not only assaulted the couple but also looted valuables, including a gold chain, earrings, watch, and Rs. 2000.
The victims’ family alleged that despite repeated complaints, the Bagbera police failed to take timely action, leading to the violent incident. They further accused the attackers of planning to demolish their house and dig a drain, which was the root cause of the dispute.
The incident has sparked outrage among locals, who are questioning the working style of Bagbera police. Residents expressed anger over the alleged inaction and demanded a thorough investigation into the police’s role during the incident.
The injured couple is currently undergoing treatment at MGM Hospital, and their condition is reported to be serious. The community has called for justice and stringent action against the attackers.
