DD Bar Murder: Main accused evades police, surrenders in Jamshedpur court

Jamshedpur: Vishwanath Mandal alias Bodra, the prime accused in the high-profile DD Bar murder case, successfully outsmarted the local police to surrender before the Jamshedpur Court on Wednesday afternoon.

Mandal, who carried a bounty of ₹2 lakh on his head, managed to evade widespread police dragnets and entered the premises around 3:30 PM. Assisted by a lawyer hailing from Bagbera, he bypassed police vigilance, entered the courtroom directly, and surrendered before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM).

The surrender has raised serious questions regarding the efficiency and intelligence network of the Jamshedpur Police. For over a week, senior officials had continuously claimed that multiple teams were conducting aggressive raids across suspected hideouts to nab the fugitive. Mandal’s ability to walk right into a heavily monitored court complex undetected has left the department facing severe scrutiny.

District authorities have confirmed that they will now approach the court to seek police remand for Mandal to initiate formal interrogation.

The case dates back to the night of June 27, when two persons were stabbed outside the DD Bar in Bistupur. According to police records, a violent mob assaulted them. One of the victims, Himanshu Singh, succumbed to his injuries. The second victim, Pratyush Anand, sustained critical injuries and remains in a local hospital, battling for his life.

With the main conspirator and executor now in judicial custody, investigators are under intense pressure to piece together the exact motive behind the daylight horror that shocked the industrial town.
