DC Prioritizes Scientific Waste Management in East Singhbhum

Jamshedpur: Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Ranjan has put scientific waste management as a top priority for the rural reaches of East Singhbhum district. He directed authorities to develop an effective mechanism for regular waste collection and disposal in local markets, including haats and bazaars. He highlighted that the initiative requires active participation from Panchayat representatives, Self-Help Groups, and local residents to succeed.

To support this infrastructure, Rajiv Ranjan instructed all Circle Officers to identify and provide land on a priority basis to set up segregation centres, including plastic waste segregation facilities, at both Panchayat and Block levels.

Ranjan chaired a district-level review meeting with all Block Development Officers (BDOs) and Circle Officers (COs) of East Singhbhum to enforce the Solid Waste Management Rules-2026 effectively.

During the session, he appointed the respective BDOs of each block as Nodal Officers to guarantee the program’s success. He informed officials that the administration will soon prepare a comprehensive district-level action plan, noting that the Supreme Court will also monitor the implementation process.

Key Deadlines Set for May and June 2026

The Deputy Commissioner established clear timelines for the rollout:

• By May 31, 2026: Officials must select a Lead Facilitator in every ward. These facilitators will drive the Swachh Bharat Mission and spread awareness about source segregation and scientific disposal through public meetings.
• By June 2026: Newly appointed ward-level Nodal Officers must identify all Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs) and submit a detailed list.

The administration will sensitize these BWGs regarding the mandatory use of four separate dustbins for sanitary, wet, dry, and other categories of waste to ensure they separate trash at the source.

The Deputy Development Commissioner, the Deputy Municipal Commissioner of JNAC, officials from various municipal bodies, and the Executive Engineer of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Division attended the meeting in person, while BDOs and COs participated online.
