Jamshedpur DC Assures Support to Dokra Artisans in Musabani, Focus on Market Linkage and Skill Upgradation

Jamshedpur: Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum, Karn Satyarthi, on Monday interacted with artisans engaged in traditional Dokra art during his field visit to Kuilisuta village under Kuilisuta Panchayat in the Musabani block. The interaction focused on understanding the artisans’ production processes, availability of raw materials, marketing challenges, and income-related issues.

Highlighting the cultural and economic significance of Dokra art, the Deputy Commissioner said the ancient tribal metal craft of Jharkhand is not only a valuable heritage but also aligns with the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat and the Vocal for Local initiative.

Satyarthi assured the artisans that the district administration would take concrete steps to connect Dokra products with local, state, and national markets. He announced that technical support and training would be provided in areas such as design innovation, finishing, and packaging to meet market demand. An exposure visit to Chhattisgarh, a state renowned for Dokra craftsmanship, will also be organized to help artisans learn modern techniques and marketing practices.

Emphasizing the need for sustainable livelihoods, the Deputy Commissioner directed officials to allocate a permanent space for Dokra artisans at ‘Vishwakarma Point’ in Sakchi, enabling direct sale of products and greater public awareness of the craft.

He further stated that efforts would be made to link Dokra artisans with government schemes, self-help groups, GI tagging, and e-marketplaces, ensuring a steady rise in income while preserving the traditional art form and generating local employment.

Present on the occasion were Circle Officer Musabani  Pawan Kumar, District Project Manager (JSLPS)  Sujit Bari, the District Entrepreneurship Coordinator, and several Dokra artisans.
