DC inspects old age home in Dumaria, distributes woollens

Jamshedpur: Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi on Thursday inspected the ‘Nirvana-2’ old age home in Bakulchanda village under Bankishol Panchayat of Dumaria block, reviewing living conditions and directing officials to ensure enhanced care for the elderly residents.

During the visit, Satyarthi interacted with the destitute and abandoned elderly staying at the facility, gathering details about their daily routine, health status, facilities available, and their access to government schemes. He instructed Dumaria BDO Nilesh Murmu to immediately act on cases where some residents were found without pensions, Aadhaar cards, or bank accounts.

The Deputy Commissioner reviewed residential arrangements, food quality, sanitation, medical facilities, resting areas, toilets, and the overall cleanliness and upkeep of the premises. Praising the efforts of Helping Hands Foundation, which operates the home, he said serving the elderly is “the highest form of humanity,” and the institution’s work sends a positive message to society.

With temperatures dropping, the DC distributed woollen clothes, shawls, and other winter essentials to the residents, directing the management to take special care of the elderly during the cold spell. He also urged staff to stay attentive to each resident’s health and personal needs.

Satyarthi said the wisdom and blessings of senior citizens are invaluable to society, noting that it is unfortunate that many elderly parents are deprived of proper care. The old age home, he said, is playing a pivotal role in offering dignity and protection to those who need it most.

The DC also reviewed the facility’s requirements and assured support from the administration. He instructed that nutritious meals, regular health check-ups, mental wellness activities, recreation, yoga, and meditation sessions be organized for the residents. He stressed maintaining high standards of cleanliness and security within the premises. Officials from the Health Department, representatives of the Helping Hands Foundation, and other concerned personnel accompanied Satyarthi during the inspection.
