DC and SP raid Seraikela Jail, tobacco and gutkha seized

Seraikela, April 1: Seraikela-Kharsawan Deputy Commissioner Arava Rajkamal and Superintendent of Police (SP) Anand Prakash conducted a surprise raid at the Seraikela Divisional Jail late Thursday evening. After around two hours of search, the teams confiscated tobacco and gutkha from the various cells.

Sources said the raid team comprised around 50 members including the magistrate. The raid started at 6.30 pm and continued till 8.30 pm. The officials divided into several teams to conduct simultaneous raids in all the wards of the jail. No objectionable items were found, save for the tobacco and gutkha packets, sources said.

The DC said several drawbacks in the jail security were noticed during the raid. He issued instructions to the jail superintendent for improving the security arrangements.

The SP said the district police was committed to provide foolproof security in the jail.

The team also included SDPO Harvinder Singh, CO Suresh Kumar Sinha, Seraikela SDO Ram Krishna Kumar, Chandil SDM and the officer in-charge of Seraikela police station, sources said.
