DBMS College observes Partition Horrors Remembrance Day

Jamshedpur, Aug 14: The NSS Unit 1 of D.B.M.S. College of Education organized a programme to mark Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. The event aimed to remember the tragic events of the 1947 Partition, which caused mass displacement, communal riots, and the loss of millions of lives.

The programme, anchored by Ankita Kumari and Anupriya Jha, began with an inspiring thought shared by Amrita Kaur. This was followed by a poem, The Fire of Partition, recited by Rupa Kumari, and a speech by Insha highlighting the suffering of families forced to leave their homes and the separation of loved ones during the Partition.

Jyoti and Nikita presented a video depiction of Partition Day, while first-semester students, under the guidance of faculty member Amrita Choudhary, performed a street play portraying the emotional turmoil experienced by people on 14th August 1947. The cast included Arpita, Ayush, Mahima, Neelu, Reema, Srishti, Siddhi, Amrita, Rohit, and Ravi.

Vice Principal Dr. Monika Uppal addressed the gathering, urging everyone to respect others, avoid judging without understanding, and seek positive intentions in people’s actions. She also spoke on the role of teachers in shaping young minds with the right values, stressing that knowledge of history helps inspire students to build a positive outlook.

The event outline was prepared by NSS Programme Officer Poonam Kumari.

The college’s Secretary Sripriya Dharmarajan, Joint Secretary Sudha Dileep, Principal Dr. Joohi Samarpita, Vice Principal Dr. Monika Uppal, faculty members, and support staff contributed to the programme’s success.

The event served as a reminder of the human cost of the Partition and the importance of promoting harmony, understanding, and empathy in society.
