Jamshedpur, Aug. 9: The English Club of Dayanand Public School organised Hunch, an inter-school competition at their campus in Sakchi to celebrate the spirit of English language and literature.
A total of 13 city schools participated in the day-long event in a number of events organised by the host school. R N Sharma, chairman, Arya Samaj Trust, inaugurated the programme. Over 100 students participated in the competition.
The day-long event witnessed an elocution contest, and a panel discussion based on the Kashmir issue. A collage competition based on the theme of ‘Victorian Era’ was also organised.
Twist and Twirl was a dance competition based on fusion and a power point presentation competition based on the topic– The Significance of Shakespeare.
Swarna Mishra, principal, Dayanand Public School said that the idea is to promote greater awareness on English literature and also help students showcase their talent in English language and literature.
�The English Club�s objective at our school is to promote learning of the language and provide opportunities for interaction between the learner and the teacher, which is vital for making learning of the language easier and enjoyable� she noted.
Another English teacher said that the primary aim of the clubs is to enable students to develop confidence in using English and make them enjoy the learning process.
The activities are designed to develop vocabulary, fluency in the language, familiarise learners with linguistic expressions, to develop linguistic competence, sharpen creativity and trigger logical thinking.
At the end of the competition, Little Flower School, Telco won the overall championship winning a trophy. The rest of the winners received medals and certificates.
