Daltonganj’s Asha Kumari wins LIC Divisional Chess Tournament in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, August 12: The LIC Divisional Chess Tournament 2024 kicked off on August 12, 2024, at the LIE Sports Club in Bistupur, Jamshedpur. The two-day event features 12 participants, with 8 players in the men’s category and 4 in the women’s category.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Kanhai Hansda, Manager Personal, and Guest of Honor Jaywant Lugun, AO Sports. Also present were G. Ravi Shankar, Honorary Secretary of LIE Sports Club, and D.P. Balmiki, Treasurer.

IA Chandan Kumar Prasad is the Chief Arbiter for the tournament.

After three rounds of play, Asha Kumari from Daltonganj won in the women’s category with a perfect score of 3 points.

In the men’s category 3 rounds were played on Monday. Himangshu B Chakraborty is leading with 3 points after defeating Mahendra Kumar Sahoo.

Kartik Chandra Das beat Glorius Minz while Ashok Das overcame Gyanchand Nonia.

Rajesh Kumar Ravi secured a win against S.D. Sharma.

The tournament continues to showcase local chess talent and promote the sport within the LIC community. Final results are expected after the conclusion of all rounds on August 13.
