Jamshedpur: The Forest Department will develop parks, ponds, pathways, and children’s play areas at three locations in the foothills of the Dalma hills adjacent to Mango. These picturesque structures will be built behind Chandravati Nagar and Gopal Nagar, near Kumrum Basti, and opposite Pardih.
Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy, during a joint inspection of these areas with DFO Saba Alam Ansari, said that once these structures are completed, the locations will become major attractions for people. From the perspective of tourism, picnics, and sports, these spots will be highly beneficial for both youth and senior citizens.
Eco-Friendly Development and Leisure Spots
Roy highlighted that the stretch from Chandravati Nagar-Gopal Nagar to Kumrum Basti is scenic and already features some existing structures. The Forest Department plans to develop these areas using eco-friendly methods to create spaces where locals can gather, take morning and evening walks, and enjoy nature.
Reviving a Natural Water Source in Pardih
Speaking about the Pardih location, Roy mentioned an ancient water-retention structure situated opposite Indira Colony, which is currently in a dilapidated condition. “There used to be a large pond there, which is currently filled with silt. Water flows from the hills into this spot 24/7, year-round, and locals even use it for drinking and cooking. It has been decided that clearing the accumulated silt will restore it to a proper pond,” he said.
Alignment with Forest Regulations & Future Plans
According to Roy, the DFO was assured that the proposals put forward are viable and comply with all forest conservation regulations. Consequently, the designated areas at the foothills of Dalma will be beautified.
Roy added that when the Van Mahotsav (forest festival) begins, people will be encouraged to plant trees on the hillside to ensure the area remains permanently attractive. Additionally, the department will explore the possibility of identifying and marking specific trails for youth interested in trekking.
