Cyclone Titli brings showers, Jamshedpur records 11.5 mm rainfall

Jamshedpur: Cyclone Titli, which made landfall on Thursday morning resulted in showers in the city. The city recorded around 11.5 mm of rainfall. The very severe cyclone Titli made landfall near Palasa in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, southwest of Gopalpur town in Odisha, between 4.30am and 5am.

“There has been no major destruction or report of casualty from any part of the state so far. Some damages like uprooting of trees and electric poles and damage to hutments were reported,” said an official.

Durga puja organisers are also at toes and are undertaking hurried measures to prevent damage to pandals due to effects of Cyclone Titli which hit coastal states of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh intensified into a severe cyclonic storm.

�We have issued advisories in both English and Hindi language in our closed whatsapp group to all the 311 licensed Durga puja committees after consulting disaster management experts,� said general secretary Jamshedpur Durga Puja KendriyaSamity Arun Kumar Singh.

The advisories which have been issued to the licensed Durga puja committees recommends, proper and special strengthening/reinforcement of puja pandals and entrance gates put up on approach roads to most of the pandals, immediate repairing of loose wires and weak electric poles either through qualified electricians or from Jusco or JUVNL, taking help of qualified and licensed electricians for checking against electrocution in case of high speed winds and thorough inspection for proper insulation of lightings.

The puja committees have been asked to ensure proper drainage and outlet of storm (rain) water near the pandals to prevent waterlogging. Informing all the active volunteers associated with the puja committees about emergency numbers of fire station, nearest hospitals and municipal authorities (Jusco, Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee, Mango Notified Area Committee or Jugsalai municipality) for.
