Curtains come down on 6th National IR Conference at XLRI

Jamshedpur : The second and the last day of the 6th National IR conference organized by [email protected] (Forum for industrial relations at XLRI) witnessed an engrossing session of panel discussion on the important topic of �Management in the era of Globalization�.

Eminent academicians like Prof Ratna Sen, Head of Department, IISWBM, Dr. Jerome Joseph, Senior Lecturer IIM A, industry stalwarts like Dharam Rakshit, Assistant Vice President Mondelez International, Salil Lal, Head Employee Relations Maruti Suzuki, P N Prasad, Chief HRM Tata Steel and well known union activists like Vasudevan from NTUI and Karthik Shekhar from UNITES shared their views with aspiring and current HR Professionals.

The discussion was moderated by Dr. A V Raman, Assistant Professor, HRM Area. Dr. Raman initiated the discussion by delving into the definitions of management and the dilemmas faced by management.

Drawing from his experiences, Dharam Rakshit highlighted the importance of the aspects of cost consciousness, quality of the product and service, innovation and the high awareness levels of consumers which is changing the arena in which business is being carried out.

Vasudevan pointed out to that the unions were one of the reasons for the creation of a separate Human Resource Department and that unions were against any form of exploitation in the garb of globalization.

While referring to the IT/ITES workers as diamond collared workers, Kartik debated the need for FDI in a country like India.

While Salil Lal shared his experiences, Dr. Joseph fittingly concluded the session with his thought provoking ideas about performance management in organizations.

The conference was concluded with an enlightening talk by eminent academician Dr. E A Ramaswamy who delved into the aspects of growth and participations from the perspectives of management and the trade unions.

The conference also witnessed an overwhelming participation in Sameeksha, the inter B-School paper presentation competition. Six papers were finally selected to be presented out of the more than 50 which had participated in it.

While the team from IIM Ranchi walked away with the first prize, the team from XLRI and FMS, secured the second and third position respectively.
