Cultural fest to mark Tagore�s 153rd birth anniversary, Prabhat Pheri today

Jamshedpur : The Steel City will pay rich tributes to ‘Gurudev’ Rabindranath Tagore on his 153rd birth anniversary on Friday.

A series of events will be organised in the city in his memory. To begin with a Prabhat Pheri, from Rabindra Bhavan, will be taken out by Tagore Society. The participants will recite the versatile bard�s ever popular songs, poems and other compositions.

The society has planned a series of events on May 9, 10 and 11. A art and craft exhibition will also be organised tomorrow. While in the evening cultural programmes will be presented.

More than thousand people from different walks of life will participate in the procession that will be flagged off by Tagore Society officials. A testimony to the literary genius�s undying appeal even 73 years after his death was evident from the multitude of people who participated in the event.

The procession will be followed by offering floral tributes to the nobel laureate at the Rabindra Bhavan. School students and students of Tagore School of Arts will also in the morning celebrations. A cultural programme was also presented by the students of Tagore Academy.

�As Tagore Society, it is our responsibility to propagate the works and vast cultural heritage of the Nobel laureate. This would be a permanent address where visitors can learn more about Tagore,� said Ashis Chowdhury, secretary of Tagore Society.

The Tagore Society, Jamshedpur has lined a plethora of festivities for the three-day event in memory of the poet-philosopher.

Performances on the second day of the festival on May 10 will be presented by the faculty members of the Tagore School of Fine Arts.

It may be mentioned that Tagore Society, a city based leading educational and cultural organisation,. It has also been organising book fair from more than two decades.

The institute trains students in fine arts including music, dance, art and crafts, up to standard VII. It periodically organises exhibitions and dance competitions in the city.
