CSIR-NML Jamshedpur hosts session on decontamination of drinking water

Jamshedpur, Aug 25: CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML), Jamshedpur organized a lecture on “Decontamination of Drinking Water: A Technology and Social Challenge” on a virtual platform on Thursday.

This program was organized for school students and teachers under the CSIR-Jigyasa Virtual Laboratory project. The main objective of the program was to establish connections with school teachers and senior students and to make learning science interesting.

Dr. S.K. Pal, Sr. Principal Scientist, and Head, RPBD Division, CSIR-NML informed that the objective of organizing this lecture series was to encourage participation and exchange of information. He concluded his speech with request to the teachers to understand young minds and inculcate an innovative mind-set in students. Students and teachers introduced themselves and interacted with the guest speaker briefly.

The guest speaker of was Dr. Animesh Jana, Sr. Scientist, KRIT Division, CSIR-NML. He started his presentation with the global status of drinking water and followed by water pollution and misuse of fresh water. Dr. Jana discussed the available technology for water decontamination like adsorption and membrane filtration. He briefly discussed the challenge upscaling of technology which denotes the hurdle related to the implementation of technology from the laboratory to the field.
