CS emphasizes on monitoring for street-vended foods

Ranchi, Jan 18: Chief Secretary R S Sharma today said that there should be an effective system of monitoring of food quality provided by the vendors.

He was speaking at a meeting of the Steering Committee monitoring the Food Safety Act with the Health Department officials at the Project Building.

He also said to make arrangements for checking whether the drugs are spurious. He emphasized on IT- driven services for registration and license to the food operators.

He said that the Centre should facilitate the State government in supporting the Act through sufficient manpower and essential infrastructure.

Chief Secretary said that all the business food operators be made aware of the Food Safety Act. He said that the ultimate objective of Food Safety Act is to ensure that food is not adulterated and below standard.

While stressing specific activities of Food Safety Officers, he suggested best utilization of existing and sanctioned manpower also to evaluate their productivity. Home Secretary N.N. Pandey along with other officials were also present at the meeting.
