Jamshedpur, July 17: In a tragic incident on Monday morning, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) official was injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in a Naxal-infested village under the Goelkera police station area in West Singhbhum. The injured officer has been identified as Devendra Katkari.
The incident occurred when Devendra Katkari (31) was patrolling through a mud road in Meralgeda village, Goelkera. The sudden IED blast caught him off guard, causing him to sustain an injury in the thigh. The CRPF official was quickly rushed to Chakradharpur railway hospital for immediate medical attention. However, he was subsequently transferred to Chaibasa Sadar Hospital for further treatment to ensure better care.

Sources in the police reported that Katkari’s condition is out of danger. He holds the position of an assistant sub-inspector and is currently serving in the CRPF’s 60 battalion.
It is worth mentioning that the area has been under intensive police and paramilitary operations since January this year to combat the CPI-Maoist rebels who have infiltrated dense Kolhan and Porahat forest divisions. The Naxal rebels have been responsible for planting an unspecified number of IEDs, leading to a series of attacks resulting in injuries to about 20 paramilitary jawans, some of them seriously. Tragically, a dozen villagers have also lost their lives in these blasts.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by security forces while combating Naxalism in the region. Authorities continue to be vigilant and undertake special operations to neutralize the threats posed by the extremist elements in the area.
The region of West Singhbhum in Jharkhand has witnessed a concerning surge in incidents of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blasts, indicating a growing threat posed by Naxal insurgents. The recent attacks have posed significant challenges for security forces operating in the area, leading to injuries and casualties among both jawans and civilians.
In the past few months, the dense Kolhan and Porahat forest divisions have become hotspots for Naxal activity, with the extremist rebels planting a substantial number of IEDs. The explosives have been cunningly hidden in strategic locations, targeting security forces and unsuspecting villagers alike.
Notably, the area has seen over 20 paramilitary jawans injured in IED explosions since the beginning of the year. Several of these injuries have been severe, exacerbating the risks faced by the brave security personnel combating the insurgency.
Tragically, innocent villagers have also borne the brunt of these heinous attacks, with around a dozen people losing their lives in the blasts. The loss of civilian lives highlights the grave impact of Naxal violence on local communities, adding to the urgency of curbing these terror acts.
