Jaduguda, Aug 13: A major fraud involving the embezzlement of crores of rupees from 19 account holders has come to light at the Narwapahar sub-post office in East Singhbhum district. Senior Postal Superintendent Uday Bhan Singh and Assistant Postal Superintendent R.K. Das visited the office to meet the victims, who reported missing funds ranging from ₹2 lakh to ₹5 lakh. Allegedly, agent Kapil Bhakt kept passbooks with him for two years, collecting deposits but failing to record them in the system. Locals mistook him for an official staff member. “Accounts with missing passbooks and postal stamps will be refunded within 90 days after verification,” assured Singh. The fraud was uncovered after Bhakt was arrested in a cybercrime case, prompting customers to check their balances. Officials confirmed that negligent staff, including the local postmaster, will face departmental action.
