Criminals open fire at tent house owner in Baridih Market, escapes unhurt

Jamshedpur : In a board day light incident, unknown assailants fired at a tent house owner in Baridih market under Sidhgora police station area today . The victim, David Paul (63), had narrow escape as the single shot that�was fired missed the target.

Sources informed that besides firing a shot, the assailant had also hurled a bomb which did not explode, but caused panic. A police party led by Sidhgora police station’s officer-in-charge Raju Thakur rushed to the spot after getting information about the firing incident.

Paul�has informed the police that a local land mafia with he is fighting a legal battle over a plot of land and this might be the result of the�gun-shot attack.

The district police are witnessing some of the testing times. The deteriorating law and order situation in the city remains major concern.

Police have launched an intensive arms checking drive on the streets to tackle crime but they seem to have overlooked the movement of various gangs which are roaming free and giving shape to criminal incidents with gay abandon.

�The city had been free from crimes, but now the `knife culture’ has taken roots. The murders at Mango are a glaring example. The police should act with utmost vigil and nab the accused. The increase in crimes is a matter of concern. Thefts were a common but recent rise of cases of murders is serious,� said the BJP leader.

An official of Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry said police should not only focus on arms checking drive but also strengthen their information network.

�Police give enough leeway to criminals who escape after committing crime. This can be stopped after proper sealing of entry and exit points of the city,� he added.
