Jamshedpur, May 30: In a major breakthrough, police have arrested a 42-year-old man named Mithun Chakraborty from Sundarnagar police station area late on Sunday night in connection with the Sanjiv Singh murder case.
A resident of Shankarpur in Parsudih area, Chakraborty was a member of the seven-member gang that hatched the conspiracy to kill of Singh at the Govindpur level-crossing under Govindpur police station area on the morning of May 12. The other members of the gang were Mangal Tuddu (38), Domnik Sansang (32) Dubraj Nag (35), Mohan Kachhap (34), Chitru Sardar (35), and Md Sarfu (28).
Senior SP, Anoop T Mathew said that the murder of Singh (40), a land and real estate dealer, took place due to an enmity. One of the reasons cited for the murder was Singh’s assault on Mohan Kachhap and humiliating the latter’s father. In addition, Chakraborty created hurdles in the land business of the victim prior to his murder.
“As per our findings, Kachhap and Chakraborty were key conspirators in the murder of the land dealer, but Dubraj Nag, whose wife Sunita became the mukhia of Barigora in Parshudih, had also a business interest behind the killing,” said Mathew.
The senior SP said five years ago, Singh had beaten up Kachhap, a resident of Sarjamda in Parsudih, and had subsequently got him implicated in a case, leading the police to send him to jail. Eventually, Kachhap was released from jail in 2014 and started conspiring take avenge of the assault and humiliation.
According to the senior police officer, Singh would carry out his land sale-purchase business in various localities. After Dubraj’s wife became a mukhia, he (Dubraj) also started the same business two months ago, triggering a rivalry between them.
He said for getting their plan executed the trio had involved dreaded criminal Mangal Tuddu and his three associates, and made the plot exactly how to kill the land dealer.
According to Mathew, fiver people killed Singh while was on his way to his Telco residence from his Sarjamda house at about 10.45 a.m. on May 12. Two assailants followed him on a bike and as the victim stopped at the level-crossing as a train was passing, five others, who were hiding there, and attacked him and gunned down Singh. Having committed the murder, all the seven had fled toward Potka.
Mathew said they had set up a team led by DSP (City) Animesh Nathani to solve the case after an FIR was lodged by Singh’s brother Tirthraj Singh.
