Crackdown on adulterated liquor trade in Jamshedpur

Mail News Service

Jamshedpur, Aug 3:  Illegal country liquor, which becomes more poisonous during the rainy season, has prompted a city-wide crackdown by local authorities. Following orders from SSP Kishore Kaushal, all station in-charges are taking decisive action against illegal liquor traders to curb this dangerous trade and protect lives.

Adulterated liquor is often mixed with toxic substances such as anti-freeze, nail polish remover, and paint stripper, increasing the risk of blindness, disability, and even death. Common symptoms of consuming fake alcohol include confusion, vomiting, irregular breathing, blue or pale skin, hypothermia, and unconsciousness.

In a recent raid, police arrested two individuals at highway liquor shops, seizing 40 liters of fake foreign liquor. These counterfeit products, brought to hotels along the highway, pose severe health risks. Previous raids have also uncovered similar illegal activities.

Legally manufactured alcohol contains ethanol, which is safe in limited quantities. However, counterfeit alcohol often replaces ethanol with toxic chemicals to reduce costs, exacerbating the danger. Smuggled liquor is frequently disguised as popular Indian and English brands by mixing rectified spirit and water.

SSP Kaushal has directed all district police stations to intensify efforts against illegal liquor operations and collaborate closely with the Excise Department to ensure public safety.
