Jamshedpur: A flying squad of Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) seized a truck carrying a huge stock of banned polythene from Shastrinagar under Kadma police station area on Tuesday.
The banned polythene consignment was being handed over to a public distribution system (PDS) shop in Block Number 4 of Shastrinagar when the JNAC team conducted the surprise raid. The said shop was sealed after the seizure, said Sanjay Kumar, Special Officer of JNAC, who laid the operation.
The truck driver, cleaner and staff of the shops godown were handed over to Kadma police. A videography of the operation was done at the scene.
According to Saroj Pandey, owner of the building, I had given my godown to one Rizwan who deals in polythene. It was he who was carrying out the business.
The truck driver Pappu Yadav reportedly told the JNAC officials that he used to bring polythene bags from Kolkata thrice every month. After being brought in the city, the stock was sent to traders in Mango, Sakchi and other city areas, he said.
The JNAC Special Officer said he would write to the Deputy Commissioner and the supply department and recommend cancellation of dealership of the shop busted by the flying squad.
Kumar and the flying squad in-charge Jyoti Punj Pandey had been keeping an eye on the PDS shops godown three days ahead of the raid.
