Seraikela: Seraikela-Kharsawan police arrested a couple with brown sugar and cash from Adityapur Busti under Adityapur PS on Thursday.
Those arrested were identified as Dhawal Kumar Patel and his wife Gudiya Sardar, both residents of Kuluptanga.
The SP of Seraikela-Kharsawan Indrajeet Mahatha said police had got a tip-off about the accused couple being involved in the procurement and sale of certain prohibited addictive substances (narcotic substances). A team was set up to conduct raid several houses in Adityapur Busti.
Patel and his wife were caught with brown sugar in their possession. The brown sugar was confiscated from an almirah kept in the house of one Mukhtar alias Sonu, a neighbour of the couple, said the SP.
An FIR was registered against the three under Section 290 and 34 of IPC and Section 8 and 21 B of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The SP said that a search was on for Mukhtar and other suspected people involved in the supply of brown sugar.
