Coronavirus cases cross 1300 in Jamshedpur, shops continue to flout guidelines

Jamshedpur, July 26: The COVID-19 positive cases in the district has crossed 1300. At present there are around 700 active cases in East Sighbhum while, total cases reported so far is 1302. Despite restrictions imposed, the city markets continued to witness heavy rush posing threat of spreading of the virus.��

With corona positive cases refusing to slow down, the administration has started hunting for additional beds for COVID-19 patients.� As part of its comprehensive plan, the administration has decided to convert educational institutes as COVID care centres.

Deputy Commissioner Suraj Kumar and Senior Superintendent of Police M Tamil Vanan inspected Awadh Dental College, Skill Development Center at Pardih, Kerala Public School, Shyama Prasad College Parsudih and other places. They said that the idea is to use these centres for those patients who have little or no symptoms of corona.� �

Keeping in view the challenges of the future, the district administration is ensuring an adequate number of beds and other medical facilities.

� According to health experts, the cases will be at its peak in August. We are taking every step to ensure that there is no shortage of beds. Though the recovery rate is equally good in the district we want to add atleast 1000 more beds for COVID care,� said an official.  

The Kolhan Division which was under green zone, came under coronavirus map with two persons testing positive at Chakulia, under East Singhbhum district on May 12. However, with the arrival of migrants the figures started to increase and now it has reached 1300.

Most of the patients do not have travel history. Several other persons tested positive have travel history from Maharashtra, Delhi, Gurugram and Chennai. They had arrived in the city and were staying in quarantine centres in different parts.

Tata Steel has also made arrangements for 507 Isolation beds and 77 critical care beds with invasive and non-invasive ventilators in the process of being set-up at TMH, Jamshedpur. A total of 130 Isolation bed facilities are already operational at TMH.

With bed occupancy reaching cent percent in most of the COVID hospitals in the city, the administration is converting school and college campuses as new health centres.

Presently, the coronavirus patients are undergoing treatment at three hospitals, Tata Main Hospital, Tata Motors Hospital and MGM Medical College Hospital. As bed availability in the three hospitals reaches almost 100 percent the administration is prompted for carrying out inspection for other hospitals.

The Deputy Commissioner has also appealed to the people of the district to strictly follow the rules of social distancing. Even a slight negligence can hit many people in corona. He advised people to strictly adhere to physical distance and essentially use masks and sanitizers.
