Men of Steel take on NorthEast United in away clash, aiming to extend perfect start to the season
Jamshedpur, March 14: Buoyed by their spirited win against Inter Kashi, Jamshedpur FC will face NorthEast United FC in their second away match of the season at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium on March 15 at 5 PM.
Jamshedpur head into the contest in top form, currently placed second in the table after winning all four matches so far, separated from leaders Mohun Bagan Super Giant only by goal difference. The Men of Steel will look to extend their impressive run despite the challenge of playing away from home.
Head coach Owen Coyle acknowledged the difficulty of the fixture but backed his team’s mentality. “NorthEast United will be a very tough challenge, especially away from home, but this group has shown great fighting spirit and discipline. If we stay focused and perform at our best, we believe we can compete strongly and fight for another positive result,” he said.
Jamshedpur’s defence has been pivotal to their strong start, keeping three clean sheets in four matches and conceding just one goal so far. Centre-back Stephen Eze has excelled at both ends of the pitch, not only leading the backline with authority but also scoring two crucial goals this season. In midfield, the partnership between Madih Talal and Nikola Stojanović has added balance and creativity, with Talal playing a key role in building attacking moves and creating scoring opportunities.
While striker Messi Bouli is yet to find the net this season, his off-the-ball movement and ability to create space have been vital for the team’s attacking structure. Coyle stressed the collective nature of the squad’s success. “Football is always a team game. Messi brings a lot more than just goals, his work for the team has been outstanding,” he said.
Jamshedpur will also draw confidence from their spirited performance in the previous match, where they battled for most of the game with ten men following a red card to Vincy Barretto. Despite the setback, the team showed remarkable resilience to secure victory. Vincy will miss the upcoming clash due to suspension, but Coyle has options on the bench in the form of Ritwik Das and Sreekuttan to step in if required.
Meanwhile, NorthEast United are still searching for their first win of the campaign, having recorded three draws and one defeat so far and currently sitting 10th in the standings. However, they remain a dangerous side, particularly at home in Guwahati.
Midfielder Nikola highlighted the importance of unity and fan support ahead of the away fixture. “We will miss having our fans in the stadium, but we always feel their support. The team spirit in the group is very strong and that helps us stay motivated,” he said.
The match will be telecast live on the Sony Network and streamed on Fancode, as Jamshedpur aim to continue their winning momentum with another strong performance on the road.
