Jamshedpur: Dealing a blow to gamblers right before Deepawali, two teams of district police here on Thursday cracked down on a gambling den in Bagbera police station area and arrested 10 persons with cash worth Rs 17,000.
The cops also seized chilam used to smoke ganja by the gamblers, 10 mobile phones and cards used in gambling.
Police sources informed that the senior superintendent of police (SSP) Anup T Mathew had ordered a raid at Lakariya Bagan under Bagbera PS after getting inputs about one Dablu Mishra, a local resident, organizing gambling activities in the locality.
The officer in-charge of Bagbera PS intimated senior officials about the presence of many gamblers at the said spot. Soon two teams were formed to conduct simultaneous raids at the said place.
One of the teams was led by DSP law and order Vimal Kumar while the other was led by police inspector cum OC of Bagbera PS Jitendra Kumar Thakur.
Cops caught hold of the gamblers who tried to escape, but failed due to simultaneous action by the police teams.
Those arrested were identified as Sanju Mishra, Ranjeet Yadav, Pankaj Kumar Bhagat, Amarendra Kumar Singh, Shubham Dubey, Bipin Kumar, Pankaj Kumar Thakur, Arun Kumar Pandey, Vikas Kumar and Vijay Dubey, all local residents.
