Controversy surrounds Jama MLA Sita Soren’s membership; BJP’s Suresh Murmu files complaint

Deoghar: A political storm has erupted in Jharkhand as Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Suresh Murmu has raised objections to the potential membership of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MLA Sita Soren from Jama. Murmu has officially filed complaints with both the Governor and the Election Commission, alleging that Sita Soren’s membership could be in violation of legal provisions.

Godda Member of Parliament, Dr. Nishikant Dubey, expressed his stance on the matter during a press conference in Deoghar. Dr. Dubey declared Sita Soren’s membership as potentially illegal, citing a High Court judgment that mandates eligibility for SC-ST and OBC reservations only to individuals born in Jharkhand. He drew parallels to the case of Giridih Mayor Sunil Paswan, who lost his BJP membership due to the same judgment, suggesting that Sunil Paswan’s birthplace in Bihar led to the disqualification.

Dr. Dubey emphasized that, in light of this legal precedent, he would convey to Chief Minister Hemant Soren that if there is an intention to facilitate Sita Soren’s entry into the legislative assembly, it should be through a general seat election.
Former BJP candidate from Jama, Suresh Murmu, has actively taken up the issue, urging the Governor and the Election Commission to investigate and potentially terminate Sita Soren’s membership.
