Jamshedpur, Dec 7: Jamshedpur West MLA, Saryu Roy, has demanded that a contempt case be filed against the District Administration and Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) for not adhering to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order regarding garbage disposal at the Sonari Marine Drive dumping site. Despite assurances made by the local administration and an affidavit submitted before the NGT regarding the resolution of the garbage problem, no concrete action has been taken, according to MLA Roy.

On learning about the ongoing fire at the garbage site, which had been burning for several days, Saryu Roy visited the location. Upon arrival, he witnessed the fire at one end of the dumping site and immediately took action by extinguishing it with water. Local residents had previously been promised by the former Health Minister and local authorities that the garbage dumping issue would be resolved, but no action followed, leaving the citizens frustrated.

Having previously taken the matter to NGT court during his tenure as the MLA for Jamshedpur East, Roy had sought legal intervention through advocate Sanjay Kumar Upadhyay. In response, the NGT had directed the district administration to resolve the issue swiftly. However, complaints about the garbage fires have resurfaced, causing significant distress to local residents due to the smoke and hazardous conditions.

Assuring the locals, MLA Roy stated that now, as the representative for Jamshedpur West, he would again take the issue back to the NGT. He expressed disappointment with the district administration’s lack of interest in resolving the matter, emphasizing that a contempt case should be filed for disregarding the tribunal’s order.

The MLA was joined by local leaders and a large number of residents during his visit to the site. Among those present were Mukul Mishra, Dharmendra Prasad, Neeraj Singh, Supriyo Ghosh, Taru Munda, BK Pandit, and several others, all of whom voiced their support for the MLA’s efforts to address the ongoing issue.
