Jamshedpur, Dec 5: A container from Odisha moving towards West Bengal was stopped and seized at the Barshole border checkpost in Jharkhand. It was carrying 39 bovines including 38 bulls and one cow stuffed in its holding to conceal the illegal consignment. Five smugglers too were arrested. The animals were being taken to Howrah district of West Bengal. those arrested were Bagnan resident Jamir Ali (38 years), Uluberia resident Sheikh Akbar (26 years), Topsia (Kolkata) resident Md Ali Raza (36 years), Bhadrak (Odisha) resident Sheikh Sarfuddin (32 years) and Sheikh Mujibur (38 years). The animal smugglers have been booked in Barshole PS case no 69/2020 under IPC Sections 414, 34 of Cruelty to Animals Act of 1960 Article 11 and under various Sections of Jharkhand Ban on Cow Slaughter Act of 2005. The accused will be tested for COVID and then forward to jail. Barshole PS OC Jyoti Lal Rajwar, SI Lalit Khalkho, Gopal Krishna, Krishna Pavaiya and other policemen of the Barshole PS were involved in the seizure of the container at the Barshole border checkpost. It may be mentioned that on Wednesday the Barshole and Baharagora police teams had seized another container carrying 45 bovines to West Bengal from Odisha along NH 49.
Seized bovines handed to Dhyan Foundation Gaushala
The 39 bovines seized during the operation at the Barshole border checkpost on Friday night were handed over to the Dhyan Foundation Gaushala near the Chakulia airstrip on Saturday morning. A Barshole PS team led by SI Lalit Khalkho gave the animals to Dr Shalini Mishra who runs the Gaushala that presently takes care of 7,000 bovine animals. All bovines being illegally transferred that are seized along the India-Bangladesh border are handed over to the Dhyan Foundation Gaushala in Chakulia.
