Congress OBC Cell demonstration in demand for 27 percent reservation

Jamshedpur, Sept 21: Mahanagar Congress OBC Cell organized a sit-in demonstration at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in demand for 27 percent reservation for Other Backward Communities in Jharkhand.

Congress OBC Cell District President Surendra Sharma led the demonstrations on Tuesday, September 21. The party’s OBC Kolhan Region President Dharmendra Sonkar was present on the occasion. A memorandum was submitted to ADM Law and Order Nand Kishore Lal addressed to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren vide which he was urged to implement 27 percent reservation for the members of the OBC community in the state.

 Kolhan OBC Morcha President Dharmendra Sonkar said that more than one and a half years had passed since the formation of the Grand Alliance (Maha Ganthbandhan) government in Jharkhand but backward classes had not been provided the benefits of 27 percent reservation in the state in spite of the fact that alliance partners, the Congress and others had promised the reservation quota for OBC community. Sonkar said that the matter of 27 per cent reservation to OBCs in their manifesto was assure during the 2019 Assembly elections and that it was time now to act on the poll assurance.

While interacting with the media during the sit-in demonstration, Dharmendra Sonkar further said that currently 14 percent reservation for OBCs in Jharkhand was adopted while 27 percent was adopted in Bihar. “Similarly, OBCs have got 27 per cent reservation in many other states. That is why the Congress party wants that the issue of 27 percent reservation is settled as per poll pledge,” stated Dharmendra Sonkar.

 District President Surendra Sharma said that OBCs were still socially and economically deprived due to the reduction quantum in the state’s reservation policy. He said that development with social justice was possible only when OBCs got complete reservation of 27 percent. “The people also want to know the intent of the government and so the state government should play its cards accordingly,” Sharma stated.

Youth Congress State Secretary Rakesh Sahu, Shilpi Chakraborty, Shobha Das, SRK Kamlesh, Md Afzal, Vasi Haider, Anwar, Deepak Gupta, Somnath Sarkar, Ravi Sharma, Sushil Kumar, Jitendra Sharma, Sushil Sharma and other party leaders and members were among others who participated in the sit-in demonstration ignoring the rainy conditions.
