Jamshedpur : A delegation of vendors displaced from Sakchi near Jubilee Park gate led by former MP and Congress leader Ajoy Kumar met DC and demanded immediate rehabilitation.

Party supporters along with State Congress president Dr Ajoy Kumar on Monday met DC Amit Kumar and sought his help in their rehabilitation. The shopowners alleged that the district administration had removed them without making any alternative arrangement for their rehabilitation.

A delegation of displaced vendors had approached me to intervene the matter as it was associated their livelihood. We have requested the administration to take immediate steps to ensure that the displaced shopkeepers are able to earn their daily bread, said Kumar.

A senior district official said that the evicted foot-path vendors have been categorically told that they not be allowed to encroach any vacant portion inside the Sakchi market as it will be used for parking vehicle and facilitating the customers to walk freely.

But the foot-path vendors seemed resentful after they were removed. “We would sustain our family by doing business on the foot-path. We are not even allowed to do business, making our lives miserable,” said Sheikh Nizam, one of the vendors. He said that the administration should provide them alternative place for doing business immediately.

Notably, the local administration with the help of JNAC and utility company, Jusco had cleared the Jubilee Park road from congestion.

The eviction squad had also removed congestion by removing the clusters of push-cart shops and kiosks from the places like Jubilee Parks Sakchi gate. Such vendors who could not move away with the cart had to part with the push-cart. Workers and policemen who were moving with trucks got the kiosks and push-carts seized and get them loaded in the trucks.

The administration seized them after giving adequate time to owners of these shops for removing from the road-side.
