Congress attacks CM over EC’s diktat on 2016 Rajya Sabha polls, demands resignation

Jamshedpur, June 21: State Congress general secretary Jyoti Singh Matharu on Wednesday demanded resignation of Chief Minister Raghubar Das after Election Commission blow on senior cop and chief minister’s press adviser for allegedly trying to bribe MLAs before the 2016 Rajya Sabha polls.

Addressing media at the Circuit House this afternoon, the senior Congress leader, said that it is really a matter of great concern that when Chief Minister has been claiming on ‘corruption free governance’ such a directive has been given by Election Commission. He said that the CM must resign on moral ground.

“It is now crystal clear that the BJP government has been trying to influence polls. We have been raising voices but now even the commission has taken a stand. It is time for the chief minister who also represents this city (Jamshedpur East) in the assembly to take a call and resign,” said Matharu.

He said that that it is evident that the senior police officials and CM’s press advisor were acting on his (CM’s) directive. “ It is really amusing that the CM has been making tall claims over good governance and corruption free rule but in reality it misrule,” said Jyoti Singh Matharu.

The ECI had yesterday directed action against ADG (special branch) Anurag Gupta and chief minister’s press adviser Ajay Kumar for allegedly trying to bribe MLAs before the 2016 Rajya Sabha polls. Both Gupta and Kumar have been accused of misusing their official position to try and influence the MLAs and the ECI has directed for immediate disciplinary action against the both the public servant ‘under relevant service and disciplinary rules’.

The ECI had taken into cognizance JVM president Babulal Marandi’s petition, with CDs of purported phone calls of Anurag Gupta and Ajay Kumar.

Significantly, BJP candidate and Ranchi-based Mahesh Poddar along with BJP Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi were elected to Rajya Sabha from Jharkhand in June last year.

Meanwhile, Congress state spokesperson Pradeep Kumar Tulsyan said that their party has already started programs at block and panchayat level to inform masses about BJP government failing to fulfill its promises.

Coming down heavily on the government, he added it was anti-poor, anti-Dalit and anti adivasi. He claimed that the law and order has hit an all time low with broad daylight incidents of crime becoming a regular feature. He added that the situation at Jharkhand has become a matter of great concern.

He also said that the criminals have regained confidence after law and order machinery has gone for a toss.
