Seraikela: The computer operators of the Panchayati Raj Department in Seraikela-Kharsawan will be running the liquor shops across the district from tomorrow. They will continue their job till the case relating to a dispute pertaining to running of liquor shops in the state is decided by the High Court. This was informed by the district excise superintendent Jitendra Kumar on Monday. He said the eight liquor shops in the district will be run by the computer operators from tomorrow.
“The locks and keys of the shops will be taken from the shop proprietors. The shops will include foreign, country and composite liquor shops. Beer will be sold in foreign and composite liquor shops. Refrigerators have been provided at the shops. The basic infrastructure needed to run the liquor trade has been made by the shop proprietors,” Kumar said.
The excise superintendent further said that the liquor shops situated in urban areas will open from 1 pm to 4 pm. Lunch break will commence from 4 pm to 5 pm. Thereafter, the shops will remain open from 6 pm till 10 pm. In rural areas, the shops will remain open from noon till 8 pm, he said.
The excise department informed all computer operators regarding maintenance of inventory for liquor stock, identification of country and foreign liquor brands and the method of their sale. The operators were told the cash collected in the liquor shops would be taken to the excise department in police protection. Two police teams have been given to the excise department, Kumar said.
