Compensation assured for family of deceased in Tatanagar Loco Shed accident

Jamshedpur, Feb 17: In a tragic incident at Tatanagar station’s new loco shed, 45-year-old Shiv Shankar Bera, a resident of Nandigram, West Bengal, lost his life during engine shunting at 7:30 am on Friday. Following the incident, Shiv Shankar’s family arrived in the city, and a meeting was convened with Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer (DEE) Vinod Kumar on Saturday to discuss compensation for the bereaved family. In the meeting, the Railways assured the family of appropriate compensation, and upon this assurance, the family consented to the post-mortem of the deceased’s body. Subsequently, the body was taken to Tata Motors Hospital mortuary for the post-mortem examination.

Senior DEE Vinod Kumar stated that since the incident occurred during duty, the Railways have provisions to provide employment and compensation to the dependents of the deceased. He assured that compensation would be disbursed to the family members at the earliest. Simultaneously, an investigative team has been formed to probe the incident, diligently carrying out its responsibilities. Shiv Shankar had recently joined the Railways, and on the day of the accident, he was involved in engine shunting. Unfortunately, he sustained injuries while signaling the loco pilot, leading to his demise. Colleagues promptly rushed him to the Railway Hospital, from where he was referred to Tata Motors Hospital for advanced treatment, but tragically, Shiv Shankar passed away en route.
