Committee urge Jamshedpur MP to raise Bagbeda water scheme issue in LS

Jamshedpur, July 16: Bagbeda Mahanagar Vikas Samiti has once again raised its voice on Wednesday regarding the pending water supply schemes of Bagbeda area. The committee has requested East Singhbhum MP Vidyut Varan Mahto to raise the issue of Jharkhand government’s negligence in the incomplete construction works of Bagbeda Rural Water Supply Scheme and Bagbeda Housing Colony Water Supply Scheme in the Lok Sabha.

The committee has also demanded that Bagbera be given the status of a city council or be included in Jugsalai Municipality. The committee has also suggested to put this demand in the next meeting of DSHA.

Under the leadership of the committee’s president Subodh Jha, a total of 776 public movements like agitation, dharna, siege, hunger strike and assembly siege have been carried out since 2005. On 30 August 2012, the assembly was surrounded while walking from Jamshedpur to Ranchi. At that time, the then Chief Minister Arjun Munda had adjourned the proceedings of the assembly and approved Rs 1 crore 10 lakh for preparing the DPR and laying new pipelines in the housing colony.

Later in 2015, on the initiative of Chief Minister Raghubar Das, a water supply scheme of Rs 237 crore 21 lakh for Bagbera and Chhota Govindpur was approved with the joint participation of the Center, State and World Bank. This scheme was to be completed by 2018, but till now it is incomplete.

The committee also said that during the Delhi Padyatra in 2022, the agitators who had come out to gherao the Lok Sabha were stopped from agitating by the state government officials by giving written assurances on the way.

MP Bidyut Baran Mahto had raised this issue in the Lok Sabha in the year 2022, after which the Prime Minister and the Union Water Power Minister had assured to complete the scheme. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, a target was set to complete it by 26 July 2024, but due to the indifference of the state government, the work has come to a standstill.

The committee has demanded the MP to raise his voice again in the Lok Sabha and take action against the responsible officers, so that the people of Baghbeda can get clean drinking water soon.
