Prof. B.S. Murty Delivers 2nd CSIR-NML Platinum Jubilee Lecture
Jamshedpur: Prof. B.S. Murty, Director of IIT Hyderabad, visited CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML) on March 24 to deliver the second lecture in the institute’s ongoing Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Before his current role at IIT Hyderabad, Prof. Murty was a faculty member at IIT Kharagpur and later at IIT Madras. A distinguished metallurgist, he was awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology in 2007 in the engineering science category.
The event, held at the NML auditorium, was attended by scientists, technical staff, students, and researchers from CSIR-NML, along with faculty and students from NIT Jamshedpur and other invited guests. Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Director of CSIR-NML, welcomed the gathering and introduced Prof. Murty as the keynote speaker.

During his lecture, Prof. Murty highlighted several pioneering initiatives undertaken at IIT Hyderabad to advance science and technology for “Viksit Bharat.” He spoke about the establishment of the Technology Innovation Park (TIP), the Interdisciplinary Research Initiative, and online short-term courses under the Open to All Teaching (OAT) program. He encouraged attendees to explore IIT Hyderabad’s research opportunities and emphasized the importance of collaboration in nation-building.
Expressing his vision for a developed India, Prof. Murty stated that through collective efforts and innovative approaches, the country could achieve its aspirations in the near future. His speech was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sivapasad, the senior-most Chief Scientist at CSIR-NML, who expressed gratitude to Prof. Murty for taking time from his busy schedule to deliver the insightful lecture. The Platinum Jubilee Lecture Series, which commenced in November 2024, continues to bring eminent scientists to inspire and engage with the scientific community.
