Cold wave intensifies, Jamshedpur records 14.6 degrees Celsius

Jamshedpur, Dec. 27: Jamshedpur recorded minimum temperature of 14.6 today. Met office said that the chill will intensify in the next 48 hours. Officials of local weather department said that the sudden change in temperature is due to depression. Met office in the predicted that the squally weather conditions may continue for a couple of days with the depression threatening to strengthen further.��



�Depressions, sometimes called mid-latitude cyclones, are areas of low pressure located between 30� and 60� latitude. Depressions develop when warm air from the sub-tropics meets cold air from the polar regions. A depression develops like the propagation of a wave in water. Initially, a uniform boundary or front exists between cold air pushing southwards and warm air pushing northwards. A wave-shaped distortion may appear on the front, and a small low-pressure centre develops at the crest of the wave,� said an official.�


The officials said that department cannot forecast how harsh the winter this year would be. However, the temperature would range between 16 and 22 degrees.�



�It is too early to predict the advent of winter however due to depression the chill in the air would give shivering effect,� said the official.

Meanwhile the daylong drizzle coupled with cold winds disrupted life in the city as people faced difficulties The drizzly weather caused long tailbacks on the city streets even on Friday . Pedestrians had trouble walking on sidewalks and roads and many found their clothes mud-splattered.

�With a day left for diwali it is really getting difficult to shop in such conditions. The chilly weather has left us shivering,� said Rakesh Pradhan, a resident of Sonari.�
