Cold Wave Grips Jharkhand: Garhwa Records Coldest Temperature at 5.7°C

Ranchi: The chill in Jharkhand has intensified as north-westerly winds bring a drop in temperatures across the state. The Meteorological Department reports a decrease of 3 to 7 °C in minimum temperatures over the last 24 hours. The recent western disturbance, which impeded the influx of cold air, has subsided, resulting in the current drop in temperatures.

The minimum temperature in Jharkhand is expected to remain relatively stable over the next 3-4 days, with a gradual increase of 2-3 °C anticipated from January 15 onwards. A chance of light rain at isolated places is forecasted for January 17-18. The upcoming days will see clear skies, dispelling fog, and dry weather conditions.

In the last 24 hours, the state experienced dry weather conditions. Chaibasa recorded the highest temperature at 27.6°C, while Garhwa claimed the coldest spot at 5.7°C. Meteorologist Abhishek Anand advises residents to take precautions during this cold spell, recommending hot beverages and wearing warm clothing.

Ranchi, the capital, witnessed a minimum temperature below 10 °C. District Commissioner Rahul Kumar Sinha assured that the district administration is actively addressing the situation. Measures such as arranging bonfires at main intersections, providing well-equipped shelter homes, and continuous distribution of blankets are in place to mitigate the impact of the cold wave.
