Ranchi: Chief Minister(CM) Hemant Soren today held a high level meeting to review the situation arising due to irregular monsoon in the state.
He directed the Chief Secretary Sajal Chakravarty to ensure coordination between various government departments and keep vigil on the situation. He said the state administration should ensure that farmers of the state get every possible help to deal with any drought like situation.
He said funds should be made available to the farmers and every possible step to provide relief to them should be taken as early as possible.
After seeing the presentation of the agriculture department, the CM ordered formulation of a special work plan to provide relief to the farmers of Garhwa, Palamu and Chatra. He said the rainfall recorded in these districts was much below the average.
He said the status of progress of various projects under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) being run in these districts was dissatisfactory. He asked the Chief Secretary to take necessary action in this regard.
Soren further asked the Chief Secretary to keep close watch on monsoon and sowing of seeds till 31st July. A meeting will again be convened on 1st August to review the agricultural status of various districts.
The government will announce relief package for farmers after the meeting. He said the government should expedite work of purchasing seeds.
