CM orders ACC to give compensation and jobs to displacement victims

Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren today directed the authorities of ACC Cement Plant to give compensation and jobs to the displacement victims within 20 days.

He said only after the compliance of his orders will the lease of the company be extended by the government. He was speaking during a meeting of the special committee of Jharkhand Assembly on its spot study in connection with the issue of the displacement victims of the cement company.

The CM said it was clear from the Assembly committee report as well as the reports of the deputy commissioner of Chaibasa and the ADC of Chaibasa (West Singhbhum) that compensation and jobs had not been given yet to as many as 38 people against the acquisition of their land by the company.

The displaced people have neither got compensation nor jobs despite passage of more than 50 years. This is a serious issue. Probably the third generation of the displacement victims are living now and they have been given the status of the landless. This is gross injustice against them. All those whose lands have been acquired by the cement plant should be given the benefits without doubt or delay, said the CM.

Soren said the practical difficulties in giving permanent jobs to the displaced people should be removed by the company without delay. He said the company should give a report on the action taken by it to comply with his orders within 10 days. He said all grievances of the displacement victims should be redressed within 20 days.

The CM was informed about the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives of the company during the meeting. He said the real economic status and progress of the villagers should be stated by the company in its CSR reports.

He said steps should be taken on providing education, health and drinking water supply facility to the villagers. He said at least two per cent of the total profits of the cement company should be spent on CSR activities.

Soren later said that the rural people should be given training so as to make them eligible to get employment.
Among others present during the meeting included land and revenue secretary JB Tubid, DC of West Singhbhum Abu Bakar Siddiqui, MLA Deepak Birua, mining secretary Arun Kumar and the company officials.
